GEORGE MILLS 'SCORES 217.

The' cricket championship matches in the fifth 'draw' were concluded (with one exception) on Saturday afternoon, and with them the first round of the contest in each grade was brought to a close. In the senior competition Auckland XI. and Auckland XV- secured wins on the first innings over United and Parnell respectively. The North Shore-Gordon match was not finished, and will be continued next Saturday.

NORTH SHORE V. GORDON

The Shoreites, who had scored 224 for 5 wickets on the previous Saturday, resumed their innings, the not outs being George Mills (99) and Denby (21). The former played a grand innings for 217, giving only one chance, late in the innings. This large score is a record for Auckland, beating the previous best, which stood to the credit of Mr W. E. Barton, viz., 190, scored for the Auckland C.C. in Senior Cup cricket at the Auckland Domain about thirteen years ago. The innings for the Shore team closed for 390, of which Denby scored 36, while all the rest, with one exception, reached double figures. On going in to bat Gordon scored 100 for the loss of 4 wickets before stumps were drawn for the daj\ Kallender being not out for 45. Scores: —
