PRIMARY INSTRUCTION.
(By Telegraph—^Own Correspondent.)
WELLINGTON, this day.
Mr John Gammell 8.A., who examined the papers for the Queen's Scholarship (Victoria University College) remarks, in the course of his report to the Wellington University College Council: 'One thing at least is certain. No one can peruse such examination papers as these that have been laid before me on the present occasion without tbe conviction being forced upon him that the system of primary instruction as carried out in these districts of the colony (Wellington, Nelson, West!and, Marlborough, Hawke's Bay, and Taranaki) is thoroughly efficient. He suggests to the Wellington Education Board that it should eliminate the solid geometry from its drawing curriculum and transfer the plain geometry to the sixth standard. This, he believes, would be a useful reform, and he sug-ests that until this change is introduced the University College Council should confine its drawing tests to the subjects of freehand and model drawing.
