OHINEMURI COUNTY COUNCIL.
(By Telegraph—Own Correspondent.)
PAEROA, Thursday,
The first monthly meeting of the Ohinemuri County Council for the year.lS99 was held tb-day, there being present:—Councillors Barry (chairman), McAndrew, McGruer, Stackpole, Shaw, Moore, Cook, and McClelland. The most important matter discussed was the drainage of Paeroa township which was brought under the notice of the Council by a largely signed petition of residents. Councillors Shaw and Cook spoke on the urgent necessity of some scheme being adopted for efficiently draining the whole town. The chairman thought Paeroa would require to form itself into a drainage area and try and obtain a loan. Ultimately it was decided that the engineer supply plans of an approved scheme and the approximate cost. The Council authorised the calling of tenders for the formation of several roads in Waihi township, which had recently become considerably -used. They also decided to meet with the engineer next Wednesday at Karangahape to see if some improvement can be made in the main street there.'
