WAITEMATA COUNTY COUNCIL.
The ordinary monthly . meeting of; the Waitemata County Council was, held to-day, there being in attendance Councillors O'Neill (c-nairman), Sinclair, Mackay, Bruce, Wilson, Hatiieid, Cochran, and MasefieldRiding Balances. —The Riding bal-. ances- to December 31, IS9S, were read as follows':---Wainui: - receipts, £ 327 16/7; expenditure, £421 18/4. Taka-. puna: Receipt^ a; 475 11/10; expendi--tiire, £705 2/.. Northcbte: Receipts, £373 0/9; expenditure, £312 19/3. _ Birkenhead: Receipts £170 14/11; ex-. penditure, £328 19/4. Kaukapakapa:; Receipts, £386 2/; expenditure, £722 19/7. Helensville: Receipts, £00 11/;; expenditure, £225* 15/5. Mairetahhi Receipts, £249 15/5; expenditure, £431 8/. Waitakerei: Receiiits, £303 14/11; expenditure, £347 4/11. Waikumete: Receipts, £354 5/5; expenditure, £758 19/11. '. Henderson.—The residents and oc-. cupiers of land in the Henderson district asked tliat a ranger be appointed to abate the n^sance of wandering cattle. Mr Geo. Buscombe was appointed to the position. Oakley's Creek Bridge.—Mr J. Stewart, solicitor to the Avondaie Road Board, gave the Council notice th;:".. they would be liable for a share in the cost of the re-building of the .Oakley's. Creek culvert, on the Great Nor;a road. The Council agreed that Messrs Russell and Campbell be instructed to oppose the payment of any contribution on the ground that the proposed culvert was a considerable distance outside the boundary of the county. Waikumete-West Coast Road.—Mr Thos, Ussher wrote complaining of the neglected "state of the water tables and the large roots and stones on the Waikumete-West Coast road. The matter was deferred until official information came to hand that the Government grant of £150 would be made over to the county for expenditure. Makarau.—Three Maoris waited on the Council and asked to be/allowed to appoint their own Registrar of Dogs,and they would use the Council's collars on condition 'they' be allow red to put the Maori King's brand on the collars in addition to the county's date ! and marks. The Council agreed to j the request, and on the recommendaI tion of the deputation appointed Hori | Kingi, of Makarau, registrar of native j dogs in the County of Waitemata at a | remuneration of one shilling for each | dog registered, the fees received to be ! paid into the County fund and \hen expended on the roads in the Maori* , settlements where the fees were re- ' ceived. I Charitable Aid.—The Ti-easurer rej ported that the new valuation of the ; county would increase the Council'sj contribution to the Charitable Aidi ! Board by £30 per annum. It was re- • solved to ask the Board for a return for the year ended 31st December,. 1598.. giving tbe names of all persons I receiving out-door relief in the county 'and of persons belonging to /the county who had had their Hospitsu fees remitted or been maintained in the Costley Home. ! Hobsouville.—A request from Mr Zander for formation of a rond from his latid to main road was referred to the Chairman with uow Ter to act. ■ Buekland's Rond (Mairetahi).— It was agreed that Cr.
