THE PERU.
The barque Peru arrirved from New York last-evening after an excellent' pass-
age of 91 days, the smartest voyage made between the ports, for some years. The Peru visited this port some years, ago, loading general cargo for London. Fine winds and weather were experienced during the greater part of the voyage, and the Cape of Good Hope was pas;sed on ! the 59th day out. The pleasure of the passage was marred* by the drowning of one of the seamen during heavy v feather. Particulars of the fatality-will be found in another column. Of the voyag.e, Capt. Luke reports:—The Peru sailed from New York . on October 13, with a sofltilh-east wind and fine weather; next /day the wind veered to the north-west, ;and blew a moderate gale.. Fresh bvte.zes from N.N.W. and fine weather followed, the wind shifting to the north and northeast, blowing a fresh gale a: id heavy squalls. On November 10 sigbf.ed an American barquentine bound from .'New York to Pernambuco, 34 days out. 1 Jassed the Island of Trinidad on the- ISt' i. On the 24th spoke the barque Ladas, bound from New York to Hongkong, 44 da; /» out; 'all well.' Fresh breezes from I ..S.E. and S.S.E. and fine weather, with' occasional fresh gales and thick weathef.-, the wind veering to S.W. and .W.S.'ftV were then experienced. On December 13 a fresh gale with heavy squalls of winds a nd hail prevailed, moderating to a fresh breeze.varying from E.N.E. to N.N.W. -On the 2Gth a moderate northerly gale -with heavy squalls of rain preva-ileet. On the sth inst. the wind blew a moderat<> gale, with fresh squalls, and increased to a strong gale from the south-west, w. th heavy sea, -which continued until, the 7 th. The weather continued squally, aaad on the 9th the wind increased to a modbera.te gale. Passed Cape Maria Van "Dhanen and the North Cape on the 10t\i; Oape Brett at 4 a.m., and the Poor K__nigiits at noon oh the Uth, and Tiritiri ■ yesterday, the wind along the coast being from the north and
north-west. The tugboat Admiral picked up the vessel inside of Tiritiri yesterday afternoon, and towed lier into port, the anchor being dropped shortly after 6 p.m. The vessel brings a cargo of kerosene and general merchandise, under the agency of Messrs Arnold, Cheney and Co.
