ANOTHER BATCH FOR AUCKLAND.
SYDNEY, January 11. The Mokoia sailed to-day with a contingent of Austrians on board.
MELBOURNE, January 11
The 'Argus,' referring to the Austrian difficulty, says the colonies are agreed that there can be no unchecked ehtry of Asiatics, but they are called upon to deal with a, different question in the ma.tter pf the advantages and disadvantages of an open dGor to Continental Europeans. The paper asks whether we can shut the door in their faces without bringing shame to ourselves, or whether they r.re a menace to our civilisation. The best and most deserving colonists, in Victoria are the hardy German pioneers of the Wimmera* district. It cannot be said there is no room, for these foreigners either in New Zealand or Australia. Such a statement is too preposterous even for a pretence. Poverty in a merely pecuniary sense should be no bar to the admission of healthy immigrants.
