INTERCOLONIAL YACHT RACE.

THIS AFTERNOON'S CONTEST

The first race of the Intercolonial Championship contest (to be sailed in three races) for one-rater yachts for the prize of £100 and a challenge cup, was sailed in the harbour and aroused a good deal of interest, especially in view, of the fact that two Australian yachts (the Geisha from Adelaide, and Bronzewing IV. from Sydney), /were competing. .The race was sailed under the auspices of the North Shore Native Regatta and Aquatic Carnival. .There were nine starters, consisting' of the following boats:—- Alma (Bailey and Lowe), Bronzewing IV. (Hordern, .of ■ Sydney)', Geisha- (Rymill Bros., of Adelaide), Laurel, C. Bailey, junr.), Mahpe- (Stonex Bros.), Maka' Maile (J. Clare). Mercia (Logan Bros), Vanora (P.. Trice, of. Howick), and Waitekauri (C. Collings). "- ' ; .The course was from the Calliope Dock round a mark off Stanley Point, thence, round a mark in Hobson's Bay, thence round mark in Rangitoto Channel, and back, tv^ce'round, distance 18 miles. The wind was light from the north-east at starting. The Mahoe had the best of the start, followed, by the .other boats in. the following" order: Geisha, Laurel, Alma,' AVaiteka.uri. Mercia, a Maka Maile, Bronnewing IV. and Vanora. Rounding the mark off. Stanley Point.Laurel led, followed closely by Alma, Waitekauri. Mahoe- and Mercia. Rounding the mark in Hobson's Bay the Laurel was still- ahead. When we went to press the boats had all just rounded the: mark boat- off Hobson's Bay and came on the wind for a dead beat tip to Rangitoto Channel mark, the positions being as follows::— Laurel ...........". 1 .
