AUCKLAND TROTTING CLUB SUMMER MEETING.

About three thousand persons were present at Epsom yesterday oh the occasion of the second day's racing of the Auckland Trotting Club Summer Meeting. The trotting and pony events provided unusually close finishes, and on the whole the sport was of an interesting character. The sum of £3698 10/ was passed through the totalisators hy Mr W. Blomfield and staff. In the grand stand Mr Geo. Akers served up a capital luncheon. The whole arrangements for the meeting were most complete, and reflected credit on Mr C. IV Mark, the secretary of the A.T.C. Eesults of concluding races are appended:—

'Christinas Handicap of 30 soys, 6i furlongs,—Kit. 1, Lulu 2, Tickle Me Gently 3. Eight started. Won easily by two lengths. Time 1.28. Dividend 16/. . v ■ . _ Lightning Handicap of 30 soys, one mile.—Alice. 1, Judah 2, Hollywood 3. Seven started. This event produced a great finish down the straight between the placed horses and J.H., the quartette trotting almost in line. Five yards from the post Judah evidently had the best of it,but Alice got up in last few strides and secured the verdict by a head. A protest was lodged against the winner by the owner of Judah for galloping at back of the course and also past the post at the finish of the race. The evidence of the respective drivers of Alice, and Judah was heard arid the protest was dismissed, it being held a break at or near the post was not liable to any ( greater penalty than break at any other part of the race. Time 2.41£. Dividend £12/. Totalisator 836.

Steeplechase of 30 soys, about 24 'miles: —Little Eaven 1, Effie 2, Kanaka 3. Also started: Helena,, The Dove, Deceiver. Won easily by five lengths. Deceiver and Helena both got rid of their riders. Time 6.52. Dividend 18/. Totalisator 1189.

Class Trot Handicap of 35 soys, one mile.—J.H; 1, Judah 2, Otakebo 3. Also started: Duke C, Lusitania, Old Judge, and Lady Retford. A couple

of furlongs' from' home J.H. went :,to; the front and won by nine yards, Otakeho just beating Duke C for third place. Time 2.36.. Dividend £1 6/. Totalisator 765.

Epsom Handicap of 30 soys, five furlongs.—Nora 1, Kit 2, Newboy .3. Ten started. Won by three lengths. Time 1.7-]. Dividend £3 1/.. Totalisator 1024. During the preliminary the pony Stenson broke the saddle girth, and' subsequently the pony fell, his rider (Eaton) receiving a kick on the leg. A fresh, rider was obtained for Stenson, but he was left at the post. Dash Handicap Trot-of 40 soys, one mile.—Lusitania 1, Victor Park and Miss Huon dead heat for second place. Won easily. Time 2.31. Dividend £2 6/. Totalisator 6-14.
