A SECRET VOTE.
A good-looking", well-to-do bachelor of> Melbourne was being 'chaffed' lately by the members of a young ladies' club for not being married. Promptly he replied: ■ I am prepared to marry that one of you whom, on a secret vote, you elect to be my wife.' This gallant challenge was boldly accepted by the fair maidens. There were, altogether nine members in the club. Each girl went into a corner and exercised great caution in preparing her ballot paper and disguising her handwriting.
