POLICE COURT.
— ■♦— —-— Yesterday afternoon at the Police Court, Mr T. Hutchison, S.M., sentenced John Dunn to three months, and Annie Willey to one month's hard labour for vagrancy. On a similar charge Jeremiah Driscoll was discharged, His Worship remarking that the accused should have the benefit of the evidence he had brought to show that he had lawful means of livelihood. Dr. Laishley appeared for the accused. A like charge against Alfred Wrigley Ellis was adjourned till the 30th inst. William Brighting. charged with having attempted suicide, was discharged with a caution, aud a prohibition order under the Licensing Act was issued against him. A young man named David Murray wgs fined £5, in default one month, for assaulting Kate Cassidy by striking her in the face. Dr. Laishley appeared for the defence. Four little boys named Robert Stewart (10). Edward Stewart (S). Edg-ar Pearce (7), and William Williams (11) i were charged with breaking and enj tering the house of Richard Eade, at Eemuera. and stealing articles to the value of £2 14s. besides damaging the ; house to the extent of £3 10s. After | some evidence had been taken, the cn^ was adjourned till January 4th, tlv boys being remanded into their paen ts' custorlv. Emma Bailer, charged with wilfully setting fire to a hou?'at Mount Albert, occupied by Franl" Baller. was remanded on bail till the 30th inst.
