THE YEAR'S YIELD.

As there are several, crushing returns yet to come in before the end of the year it is too soon to accurately state the total, value of the bullion obtained from the Auckland fields during the past twelve months. An approximate estimate of the yield may, however, be gathered from the1 official statistics which are now complete -to November. According to the Customs returns the value of gold exported during the past eleven- months from Auckland was £460.952, and silver £30,417, making- a .total export of £ 491,3(59. 'Of course, this does hdt represent the actual output, as all the gold and silver is not exported. If to the above total we add the £52,054 obtained during the last month we bring up .the year's yield to £.544,023, as compared with £401,737, an estimate formed on similar lines last year, showing an increase for 1898 of £142,----256. ■
