NEW ZEALAND TALISMAN.

A RECORD RETURN. £4011 17/9 FROM 882 TONS. Another record has been established . by the N.Z. Talisman G.M. Company, j During the month the mill worked . twenty-five days and crushed 888, tons of ore for a return of £4041 17/9. This is at the rate of £4 11/8 per ton of ore treated, and the return is a record one both as regards value ot j ore per ton and amount crushed. Ine j returns for the year from this mine are as follows: — , Tons £ s d January 232 .. 764 9 6 SuaTy::::::::::: 393 .. igs j un y e .. 692 .. 2018 0 0 !„,,! 687 .. 1922 410 fembcr".:::::::::..::: ™ ■■ ** ; 5 October «36 .. 34<8 1 1 November • 874 .. 3758 0 0 December *• 882 '• mlYl ° Total £25,351 8 11 A slight sioppags of work at the Talisman Company's battery occurred on Tuesday owing to one portion ot a turbine breaking. The battery was only idle 12 hours. Satisfactory developments continue Ht all the different levels of this ' Company V workings, and there is ■fto earthly reason why the satisfac-

of the battery should not continue for i years. I believe they will. The reef \ is looking splendid in every level, and i the last return, which is the result of a crushing from four different levels,' proves the uniformly payable nature ! Of; the lode. At '(No. 2 level the cross- ! cut has reached the reef in the Bo- I nanza sectioa, and driving south has ' commenced. The reef is four feet i wide, with one wall still unexplored, and as it is a strong lode of ore and ' gives 200 feet of backs, a valuable I block will shortly be opened up here. !At No. 3 level driving south' on the | lode has been resumed with one shift, I and a nice block of payable dirt is I being opened" up. Sloping is also in progress over the back of the level, where a fine reef is being operated ! upon; whilst a rise is up 50 feet to j connect with the No. 2 level, and this, ! when completed, will give good' yen- ; Illation at both levels, besides opening up the workings. At No. i level driving is proceeding southwards on theI Bonanza lode,, which continues of a payable character. The face is now in 200 feet ; >re. The stopes at this level are also providing a line supplyof crushing dirt. At No. 5 level the crosscut to intersect the lode in the Bonanza is so far advanced that it is anticipated the reef may be met at any moment. In No. ' 6 level the stopes show a splendid reef in the i Talisman section varying from 3 feet ito 10 feet wide, and of high grade j dirt. In No. 7 level the drive"south on i the reef (also in the Talisman end of j the property) is in over 100 feet, work being pushed ahead on the western wall in order to get underneath the point where the winze from No. 6 level will come down. The face discloses a strong body of good looking ore, and the class of country in the wall which is exposed is of good quality. In all of these six levels it will thus be seen that ihe mine is steadily advancing, and it will continue to do so, 1 believe. .A..splendid self-acting incline tramway has been formed from No. 2 level to No. 4 level for the haulage of quartz, and the' work, which is just completed, reflects great credit on the contractor, Mr John Law. The Company have also had a fine blacksmith's, shop erected at No. 4 level, and an office for the manager will shortly follow. WAITEKAURI G.M. COMPANY. The development work proceeding at this company's property proves that it is steadily advancing in value with the opening up of the lower levels. The No. 1 shaft is now down to No. 4 level. The sumpt has been formed ,and erosscutting for the reef lias been commenced. At No. 3 level the lode has been driven on 130 feet north, and 10 feet of the lode has been found to be carrying high grade ore. The rise from this level, which is up -15 feet, proves that the intermediate stone also maintains the same quality as in the level below. In No. 2 and No. 1 levels satisfactory progress is being made. At the latter level the face is over 1,000 feet in on the reef, clearly showing that the lode is spreading northwards as depth is attained, whilst the results at Nos. 2 and j 3 levels show its quality also to be improving in the same direction. At No. 2 shaft the No. 2 level north has encountered good grade ore within S5 feet on the Premier run of gold, thus proving the continuation of the run of gold in this part of the mine. At the Te Ao Mararna and old Waitekauri sections good results are also being obtained.
