SOUTHERN TELEGRAMS.
WELLINGTON, this day.
r Mr Dobson, C.E., who was engaged for some time surveying the proposed new railway route over the Rimutaka, has presented his report to the Government. A line via the old coach road would not, in Mr Dobson's opinion, be expensive to maintain, as, taken generally, the country does not seem liable to slips. A good line, -with fair grades and curves, and not expensive to maintain, which would not ■ leave Featherston out, and which would shorten the distance by seven miles and reduce the summit height by 20 feet, could be made at a cost of under £200,000. In the Divorce Court, a decree nisi ( was granted in a case in which Wm. Henry Fielder, clerk, sued for a divorce from his wife on grounds of adultery. INVERCARGILL, this day. Mr Allan Gait, one of a family well known as breeders of high-class Ayrshire cattle, died yesterday, in his SOth year. WANGANUI, this day. His Excellency the Governor paid an official visit to Wanganui yesterday. He received a loyal and hearty reception, and was presented with addresses from the burgesses. and. the school children.
