The Attorney-General has decided that there is a case for a jury against the two youths, Blomeley, acquitted by the Magistrate of shooting their father at Ballarat,
[The boys were charged with the murder of their father, and were discharged, on the ground that their father's ill-treatment of their mother and the rest of the family caused great provocation. The lads, it was urged, acted for the protection of their mother, whose life was probably saved. The Crown Prosecutor concurred. The evidence showed that death was accelerated by chronic alcoholism.]
