The St. George's Rowing Club's trial fours, which were to have been held on Saturday afternoon, had to be postponed on account of the bad weather, and are being rowed oft" in the rnoruings and evenings of this week. Last evening the Auckland Opera Company produced "The Mikado in the presence of the largest audience which has yet assembled. In the.absnce of Prof. Schmitt Mr Charles Waud wielded the baton. The performance went with a vim from beginning- to end.
Mr Alex. Alison acted as starter at the North Shore Rowing Club's trial fours on Saturday afternoon and provided the s.s. Planet for the occasion as the starter's boat. Mr Alison's name was omitted from our report of the proceedings in yesterday's paper. The Xew Zealand Rifle Championship Meeting is to commence on February 23. and Major Sommerville has written up from Wanganui in reference to the meeting. It is about time that those Auckland riflemen who intend attending the meeting got into practice on 'the range so that they will be fit to ■■meat the Southern marksmen.
Last "evening the usual weekly drills of the Xo. 2 Xew Zealand Native Rifles and the Newton Rifles add the Field Engineers Volunteers, under Capts. Oakes:. Myers, and McGee, were held. Th two rifle corps were drilled on the asphalt a.t the rear of the Drill Rail. Four squads of recruits were drilled by non-commissioned officers of \he Battalion.
