Our Cambridge correspondent writes re the Hiiutapu drainage district: As 1 wired you, objections to the classification list, of the lands of the above district were heard at the Magistrate's Court here yesterday. At the timo L sent lite telegram mciv appeared to 1.0 every probability of the Court being adjourned for a month to enable the Magistrate to look Tip the law on the matter. However, after an hour's adjournment he ruled that the assessors could sit, according to section 7 of "Die Land Drainage Act, 1893,' but still Messrs Dyer and SwarbriCic, wTio were appearing for objectors, insisted that a note of their dissension should be taken. Mr Buckland, who appeared for the Board, contended that the assessors must be permitted to sit if they wished to, and in this case, at the' request of the Board, they were prepared tc carry out their duties. The objections were then gone through seriatim. At the start the number of them was 11, but when all the informal ones and those that had not complied with the Jaw had been struck out the number was reduced to two, viz., Mrs Martyn and, Mr W. Selby. One gentleman had failed to o-ive the Board the requisite seven clear days notice required by the Act. The case lasted till 8 p.m., the result being that Mrs Martyn's land was reduced from classes one and two to classes two and three; and Mr Selby's from class one to class two. The only costs allowed against the Board were £11/ each for the objectors' lawyers. I learn that Mr W. T. Carr is to be nominated to fill the place upon the Borough Council lately vacated by Mr William Escott. The prettiest stock of neckties that have ever come to this country are now being sold uj Oeo.
