PARNELL SCHOOL PICNIC.
The Devonport S.S. Co.'s Osprey left the ferry tee with a large number of pupils, parents, and friends for St. Heller's Bay last Saturday tnorniny. The United Fire Brigades Band played stirring music on the way to the bay, and after v very pleasant passage all were safely landed and proceeded to the grounds, where the various family parties selected suitable • shelter and shade under the trees. The boilers were already under way, and tea with milk and sugar was soon available for those desiring it. and the supply was kept up nil day. In the meantime, the track for the races was measured and Ragged, and the programme carried out without a hitch from start to finish. By the 10.30 a.m. and 2 p.m. boats considerable additions were made to the gathering, and at the close of thu' day
everyone .seemed to have spent a most enjoyable time. All the events were keenly contested., especially the, Boys' School Handicap and the Girls' School Handicap. The prizes for these two races were two large iced cakes presented by Mr Jus. Koryie, of Stanley-street. The following arc- the results In connection with the sports:—

In the swimmlnjj events under tho management of Mr Bines the principal contest was the School Championship, and the prize presented by Mra J. L. Scott was won by Thos. Hutton.
