THE PREMIER AT ELTHAM
THE RAILWAY QUESTION.
HAWEEA, November 21.
The Premier visited Eltham on' Friday night and was entertained at a. largely attended banquet. On Saturday he was driven out 13 miles eastward and opengd a bridge over the Patea River, which gives access to a large area of Crown lands. He delivered a political speech in the even-' ing, giving a resume of the work of the session, and quoting many figures to show that the colony, and Taranaki especially, had made wonderful' strides during the last six years. He told a deputation re the' AucklandTaranaki Trunk Line that he couldnot exceed certain boimds in the survey and exploration of this route; without the sanction of Parliament, but he would do the he could with the means afc his eonmiand nnd report next session.
