THE FLAX INDUSTRY.
On the afternoon of Oct. 24 a conference of merchants and others interested in the flax industry Avas held at the rooms ot the Chamber of Commerce. Mr John Reid presiifcd.
Mr Carr (Carr, Johnston, and Co.) moved, (1) That this conference is of o'pinlon that it is absolutely necessary to appoint a flax inspector in Auckland; and (2) That representatives of this meeting wait upon the railway authorities and ask for provision of facilities for the opening and re-baling of bales of flax at the goods shed.
Mr Hogg seconded and the motion was adopted.
It was further resolved that a committee, consisting .of Messrs C. Hesketh, Hogg, Passmore, ancl Robertson, be set up to arrange details and report to a future meeting.
