SHOT HIMSELF.
DEATH OF MR ARTHUR TREN-
DALL
Early on October 3 a very distressing fatality occurred at Vermont street, Ponsonby, in the residence of Mr Ephraim Trendall. About 4.15 a.m. his son Arthur Walter Trendall, a single young* man 26 years of age, was heard by his brother Echvard to be moving about the bedroom, and almost immediately afterAvards a shot was heard. At first it was thought to be a stone throAvn on the house, but at last Edward Trendall called his brother Henry, who got up, procured a light, and went to the lumber room, where he was horrified to see Arthur Trendall lying on the ground with part of his head completely blown off. A breech loading fowling piece was lying across his feet. Dr. Knight was at once called in, but of course could do nothing save inform Constable Luke McDonnell, of the Ponsonby station, who was promptly in attendance, made the necessary inquiries and reported the matter to the coroner.
The deceased was one of the firm of Trendall Brothers, printers, of Upper Pitt-street.
No cause can be assigned at present as a reason Avhy deceased should have committed suicide. When he retired to rest last night he seemed in good health and spirits, his brother Henry being the last person who suav him. The deceased slept in: the same room as his brother Edward, but did not say anything before he went doAvnstairs. An inquest was held at which the jury returned a verdict 'that deceased committed suicide while in a state of temporary insanity? * •'- •* - —.~_t-_U-l_-_._.
