BAND OF HOPE COMPETITION.
The Foresters' Hall, ICarangahape Road, was well filled again last night, when the second of the competitions in connection with the Band of Hope Union was held. Mr T. J. Bull presided. The awards for Monday night was announced as follows: —Keciting, females, 12 to 1G years of age: Ist, Zoe Muriel Bartley, Newton Excelsior, 152 points; 2nd, Mary E. Hughes, Mt* Eden Baptist, 130 points; 3rd, Marioa Spedding, Tabernacle, 117 points. Pianq solo, males and females, under 12 years: Ist, Alfred Saunders, Sir Henry Haveloek, 135 points; 2nd, Euby] McMaster, Pitt-street Wesleyan, 130 points. Piano solo, males and females, over 12, under 1G years: Ist, Normals Williams, Pitt-street Wesleyan, and Eliza S. Ness, Newton Excelsior, 133 points, tie; 2nd, Pearl Katcliffe, Tabernacle, 124 points. Piano duet, female over 16 years: Ist Mary and Jessie Thorne, St. John's Wesleyan, 145 points.
For last night's competitions Messrs Scott, Walker and Webber were judges of elocution, and Messrs England, Culpan and Cramvell for music. Recitations were given by Frederick J. W. Taylor, Elsie Green, Maud Griffen, Christina Lamb, Wilfred Lawson! , Hughes, Robert Milligan, Elsie K. Taylor, Leslie B. Neale, William Page, Clara May Baker, S. Clayton Thome, and Clara Irene Russell. Vocal solos were given by Leslie B. Neale, Douglas Thurbow McLeod, Edward Crawford, Elsie Marion Butler. Ruby McMaster, Madge Barron, Rosa Sparg-o, Elsiff Green, Myrtle Pritchard; The pro-g-ramme to-night will consist of Piano' Solos, male and female over 10; Piano Ducts, male and female over 12 anct under :ifi; Piano and Violin Duets, male and female over 12; Piano Sight Test, and a. Spelling Bee.
