HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.

The ordinary meeting of the Auckland Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was held yesterday afternoon, when there were present Messrs J. Stichbury (Chairman), G. M. Reed, J. E. Taylor, J". Jamieson, J. Becroft, A. Bruce, and J. M. Lennox. Children's Hospital.—The Chairman reported that the following donations to the Children's Hospital (Costley wards) had been received: T. Teasdale', jnn., 21s ; J. Johnson, £2 2s; J. Muir, 20s. Mr and Mrs H. M. Siueeton wrote donating £10 10s to furnish a cot, which they wished to be named the "Edna" cot. Mr Adam Brock, Secretary of Lodge Ara, 343, 1.C., wrote stating that the Lodge would increase its donation of £100 to the extent of supplying the twelve cots with aceessones- The National Independent Order ot Oddfellows wrote promising two cots(£2l). The Auckland Provincial Royal Arch Chapter of Masons donated £10 10s for a cot.—The various offers were accepted with thanks.

Missionary Nurse.—Miss C. Beetham wrote requesting admission to the Hospital as a probationer nurse for 12 months in order to qualify herself for medical missionary work abroad.—The request was referred to the Medical Superintendent Dr. Baldwin, for his report. Alcoholism.—Discussion took place regarding the question of the Board's responsibility re cases of alcoholism sent to the Hospital by .the police.—Dr. Baldwin wished for definite instructions whether or not to admit in the future a certain case that had been in the.Hospital frequently suffering from alcoholism. The Board considered that the gaol and not the Hospital was the proper place for the treatment of prisoners suffering from delirium tremens.—lt was decided to obtain legal opinion as to the responsibility of the Board in the matter.

Hospital.—The Medical Superintendent reported that there were at present 89 male and 29 female patients in the Hospital. Since last report there had been four deaths, three being those of females.

Costley Home. — Tbe manager of the Costley Old People's Home, Epsom, reported that since last report two persons had been admitted to the institution, and two. men and one woman had been discharged. There had been no deaths during the fortnight. There were at present 140 men and 53 women in the Home, and one case in the maternity ward. It was agreed to admit an old woman to the Home from Warkworth at tbe request of the Rodney County Council.
