A concert in aid of the Mercer school fund was held in the Garrick Hall at Mercer on Friday evening last, when there was a large gathering from all parts or tne district attracted by the excellent pro-; gramme provided for the occasion. in| stage was very tastefully decorated ;»na.. presented a pleasing appearance, Miss White, the lady teacher at the P u°^ school, deserving much credit, for her skill in arranging the decorations. The accompaniments were played by Misses Koberw, Gallery and Hawson. The various ltemi were all well rendered and fully appr* . dated by the audience, especially those ey Mrs Snail, Miss Davis, Miss Dickinson. Maatei George Roberts, Mr G. Hawson,.. Mr Craig-, and Mr Spencer, the last named • evidently beinjf a favourite with Mercer audiences. The performances of tneorchestraalso deserve mention. Great praise is due to Mr Edwards, the schoolmaster, tor the very efficient manner in which tne' arrangements were made and earned out.
