PARNELL.
The ordinary meeting of the Parnell Borough Council was held Last evening, there being in attendance: —Mr N. W. Pollard (the Mayor), andCrs. A. P. Friend, McCabe, Geo. "Cohens, Hugh Campbell, Petford, J. Gilinore, Fitt, Brings. Cr. Tewsley was granted two months'leave of absence on account of illness.
Measles.—Dr. Hope Lewis reported a case of measles in St. btephen's Road. Fire Brigade.—lt was resolved to erect a flag pole on top of'the new lirebellin course of erection at corner of Manukau and St. George's Bay Roads. Water Meters.—Messrs Hesketh find Richmond, solicitors, wrote that they had looked into the question submitted to'them as to the right of the Council to cut off the supply of water to a consumer outside the borough on account of his refusal to fix a meter as desired by the Council. They thought section 329 of the Municipal Corporations Act empowered the Council at any time on giving three months' notice to discontinue the supply of water without being liable to any claim for compensation. The section enabled the Council to discontinue supply without assigning any reason. —The letter was received.—The Council then decided, on the motion of Mr Cozens, " That Mr Gannon be notified that unless he affixes a meter to his water supply within three days after receiving notice that his supply be cut oft." Burgess Roll.—lt was agreed that the names of Catherine Killip, Elizabeth C. Chaniberlin, and Annie Hocquard be placed on the burgess roll. New Markets.—A communication from the Greytown Borough Council re the advisability of opening up" new markets for produce was received. Letter of Thanks.—A letter was read from ex-Councillor W. Thomas conveying thanks- for the resolution passed by the Council as to his past services. Accounts.—Accounts amounting to £33 19s 9d were passed for payment, Report.—The. Foreman'of Works report, which was adopted, dealt with minor work done in the borough during the fortnight. Among other work channels had been attended to in Gladstone, Claybrook, St. Stephen's Road and Moore-streets. Nuisance.—The Inspector of Nuisances reported a nuisance in Manukau Road from three cottages. — Referred to the Streets Committee with power to act. Interfering with the Ranger.—Mr Gardiner, the borough ranger, reported that he had been interfered with in his duties. He also alleged that he had been abused. —The Council thought their officers should be supported, and on the motion of Cr. Friend it was agreed to refer the matter to the Council's solicitor.
