CORRESPONDENCE.

HAURAKI NORTH

(To the Editor.)

Sir,—-Will you kindly give me space for the following? 1 write it with the view of drawing the attention of contributing shareholders, and also of the freehold owners of properties leased to the above company. Yesterday tenders were received by the Official Assignee for the several leaseholds in the estate of the Hauraki i North. I put in a tender for the lease ! held from me, but find my tender was informal, because it was not a tender for all the leases, no matter to whom belonging. I cannot afford to buy proper lies belonging to others, I only want to buy my own a second time, and I think it auite enough. Over three years ago I leased my property to the Hauraki North, for which I received 600 shares from tho company; afterwards I took up preferential shares at 3/ each., I now hold both, never having sold one, therefore must now pay calls to pay the company's debts. I suggest that all the contributing shareholders protest as one man againsi the speculators' way of selling those leases as at present intended. ' Instead of selling the whole, freehold and leases, in two lots, to suit wealthy speculators, request the Official Assignee to have each lease from the freehold owners sold separately—that will give the owners of the freeholds a chance to purchase their own properties again, which will of necessity greatly increase the amount of purchase money to be received for those properties, and decrease the amount' of calls to be paia by us unfortunate contributing shareholders. I feel perfectly confident that if the matter is properly brought under the notice of the. Official Assignee, that

gentleman will set the matter right and will be no party to wealthy speculators' designs.—l am, etc.,

H. E. WILLIAMSON,

Queen-street, Auckland, September 23, IS9B.
