POLICE COURT.-THIS DAY.
(Before Mr T. Hutchison, S.M.) Assault and 'Language.'—Samuel Courtney pleaded not guilty to assaulting-' John Halloran and using- obscene language. Dr. Laishley appeared for the accused. After hearing evidence on both sides His Worship said the accused must be convicted. A sentence of. one month's hard labour was imposed on each charge, sentences to be concurrent. Remanded—A boy named Edward Black was remanded for 8 days on two charges of stealing a spade and breaking and entering at Point Chevalier. Mr Brookfield appeared for the defence.—Annie Fricker, a girl of 17, pleaded guilty to stealing a pair of lady's shoes and to being an idle and disorderly person. The magistrate remanded her for 8 days. Drunkenness.—A first offender was ■convicted and discharged. William Williams was fined 5/, or 24 hours' hard labour. The Eailway Line.—Timothy Troy was fined 1/, with costs 12/6, for tres«
passing on the railway line between Newmarket and Remuera. Mr Devore appeared for the Railway Depatment. A Bolt.—James Young left his cart and horse a few days ago in order to do some shopping. While he was inside the horse bolted and damaged a buggy and two verandah posts before it was caught again. Young pleaded guilty this morning to having been away from his horse, and was fined 5/.
S-tone-throwing. —James Pert was found guilty of throwing stones in Customs-street to the danger of a passer-by and was discharged with a caution.
