COOKERY IN SCHOOLS.

(By Telegraph—Press Association.)

WELLINGTON, this day.

The Teachers' Institute is protesting against the conditions under which cooking has been introduced into the Wellington schools. Members do not object to the teaching of cooking itself, but they urge that the syllabus already contains too many subjects for the time at their disposal, and every new one means that tue rest must suffer. They claim that the position is impossible, and must do harm.

A child named Daniel O'Sullivan, five years of age, was drowned in Te^Konuru "Creek, Northern Wairoa, last Tuesday, while playing among some logs. The body was recovered at low water. A verdict ot « accidental drowning " was returned at the inquest.
