The Northern Gun Club held their usual meeting on Saturday last, when there was a good attendance. The shooting for the prize presented by a Club member was brought to a conclusion, and when the sealed handicap was opened by Mr A. Bull, the President of the Club, and scores were compared, the winner was found to be Mr A. C. Whitney, with the score of 26 out of a possible 34. The chief scores were as follows, the handicaps being shown in parenthesis :-Mr A. C. Whitney (3), 26; Mr J. Wigmonj (3), 25; Mr R. Parry (0), 25; Lieut. J. E. Hume (0),24; Dr. Hood (1), 24. Throughout the handicap much interest has been taken by members as to how it would eventuate, the conditions of shooting beiag quite novel and no member being aware whether or not his shooting had concluded or what his position was until the President opened the sealed handicap. This told the position of each competitor as to handicap points given, and also named the number of the shot which actually concluded the handicap. This was 34, although members had to fire at 40 " birds." The winner was presented ■with the prize by the President and a very enjoyable afternoon, during which several sweepstakes were shot off, was brought to a conclusion.
Most successful services in connection ■with St. John's Wesleyan Sabbath school were held yesterday. The church was crowded to overflowing on each occasion. At night many persons could not get in. The singing by the children was a specially interesting feature, and the sermons were all most appropriate. The sermon m the morning by Pastor Clark was on Moses, by Rev W. Chapman in the afternoon on Joseph, and that by Rev. A. Peters at night on Samuel. The collections were large.
