HIS LIFE ATTEMPTED,

The Emperor and all the high officials have paid homage to the Dowager Empress, who has interpreted this as an act of abdication on the part of the Emperor. Pekin is said to be apathetic at the turn of affairs.
The Government describe Kang Kuwei. who was expelled from the Tsung Li Yamen, as a degraded criminal. Kang has made himself scarce, and a British steamer has searched in Tain for traces af the fugitive. If he had been arrested he was to have been executed, on the gjroiind of an attempt to murder the Emperor. A British fleet is cruising in the Gulf oi: Pechili.
