A syndicate has been formed on the strength of Rougemont's statements ; that goldfields of great wealth exist j ih the unexplored portions of Australiu. He declares that it is intended to apply to the Government for a reWard for the discovery of three distinct fields. These areas, the syndi- j eate assert, surpass anything previous] v discovered in Australia. ' ' In a letter to the 'Daily Chronicle slr David Carnegie subjects RougeI '"jont to sharp criticism and appeals to !' v. H. Pietkins, who acted second in ' I Command of Giles' expedition to deny I that Giles fired upon Rougeinont.
