LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.

WELLINGTON, Thursday.
In the Council this afternoon the Hon. Mr Bolt asked whether tho Government will introduce some system of dealing with passengers' luggage as will give, either by registration or otherwise, less trouble and anxiety to passengers and ensure greater safety and certainty in delivery, and more expeditious handling than is Bound under the existing system. \ In reply the Minister of Education said the regulations were in course of preparation for the introduction, of a permissive check'system; but the Department was of opinion that the present plan is the best for <short distances. . . . In reply to the Hon. Mr Feldwick tne Minister of Education said the Government would be willing to assist in affecting any suggestion for the restoration of the photographic shields of former members. The Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Bill and Gaming and Lotteries Act Amendment Bill were read a first time. The Immigration Restriction Bill was read a third time and passed. At the request of the Hon G. McLean the debate on the motion for the second reading of the Workers Compensation Bill was postponed till Tuesday. The Council rose at 3.20 p.m.
