THE OVALAU.
The s.s. Ovalau arrived at 11.15 a.m. to-day from Rarotonga and Tahiti. Mr J. A. Tubby, the purser, to whom we are indebted for files and despatches, reports:—The Ovalau left Auckland 6 p.m. n 30th ult., reached Rarotonga, Cook Islands, 11 a.m. on 6th inst., departed same day 6 p.m., arriving Papeete: Tahiti, 9 a.m. on 9th inst. Left Papeete 6 p.m. on 10th inst., arrived off island of Mauke 2 p.m. on 12th, left 2 p.m. on 13th for island of Mangaia; arrived 5 a.m. on 14th, departed 4 p.m. same day; anchored Rarotonga 3,30 a.m. on 15th, and left for Auckland 6.15 p.m.
15th. Experienced fine weather until 20th inst, when strong S.W. gale with beavy head sea was encountered, which
lasted until midnight on 22nd, followed by fine weather.
