THE SUPPOSED DISCOVERY OF A KUMI.
(To the Editor.)
Sir,—l have read in the columns of your paper an account of a strange animal alleged to have been seen in some part of the King Country, of which account there would seem to exist a certain amount of credulity on the part of some people. Sir, many years ago I have heard the old natives giving a description of an animal which existed ab«»ut that part of the North Island which corresponded very much with the description of the animal seen in the King Country, which the natives said waited in the forests and about swamps and attacked the natives which I thought myself was perhaps a species of alligator from the way they spoke about it; but perhaps it was identical with this animal as described in your columns. —I am, etc., JOHN GKACIE. Newton Road, Auckland.
