OTAGO CENTRAL RAILWAY
At the annual meeting of the Otago Central Railway League, Mr A. Bathgate, who presided, said the efforts of the League were disappointing, but if it had not been in existence, probably so much would not have been done. He read a letter to the effect that settlers, after waiting for years for the railway, had decided to give up. At Alexandra, 120 miles from Dunedin, which was the centre of the dredging industry, they had to be content if they got •roods from Dunedin in three weeks. Mr 0. S. Reeves moved, "That, in the opinion of this meeting, the time is opportune foithis colony to borrow for the purpose of completing the Otago Central railway, and other lines already sanctioned by -Parliament.":' After.discussion the motion was lost;also an amendment to' submit the matter to apubliemeeting.
