THE PROPOSED WHARF AT BRICK BAY.
(To the Editor.)
Sir,—l notice that it is proposed to have m wharf at Brick Bay, at a cost of £1500. Now, would it not be much better to get the Harbour Board to' dredge a narrow channel in the bay.and make a road to it from the shore to. below low water mark? Then .let the Harbour Board make another sloping road near the Freezing Works, and get a steamer to carry carts, waggons, etc., to run backwards and forwards from Brick Bay to the Freezing Works, and enable people to drive on board' on one end an"4*Bfive out. ati ItM other, taking about ten minutes to cross. I spoke to Mr A. Alison, nnd he'^said that the- Devonporfe-Ferry -Co. had offered to build a special steamer for the purpose, but they could not com 6to terms with the Harbour Board. This would save the Board a large expenditure for wear and tear on the wharves through the cargo traffic. It would save the Ferry Company the trouble of loading and unloading carts and waggons, the taking out of horses, and all this, in getting loaded carts and waggons on board as at present. It.would remove one of the greatest reproaches that there is in Auckland management, and the complaints of strangers of the delay through getting cargo on board. Would it not be well for those interested in the wharf at Brick Bay to see what terms could be made with the Ferry Company, and if that fail, see what would be the expense of getting a, steamer for the purpose?— Yours, etc., EDWIN HARROW.
