LIBELLING ZOLA.
ZOLA'S WITNESSES ATTACKED BY
A MOB.

A writer in the 'Petite Journal' recently attacked the character of M. Zola. Among other statements lqi alleged that Zola's father was dismissed from the army for theft. An action was instituted against the writer of the libel and the manager and the publisher of the journal. The writer was fined 2000 francs, the manager and . publisher 500 francs each, while the three accused were ordered to pay 5000 francs damages. Professor Grimaux, who, after givin°- evidence favourable to Zola at the recent trial, and was dismissed from his position at the Paris Ecole Polytefhnique, and M. Yues Guyot, another witness whose evidence strongly condemned the action of the Government -with regard to Zola, have been severely handled by an anti-Semitic mob while attending a Science Congress at Nantes.
