THE NEW GUINEA LAND GRAB.
MELBOURNE, this day.
The Premier of New South Wales attends a conference of Premiers to be held in Sydney a fortnight hence to discuss the New Guinea land grant. It will be proposed that the colonies withdraw their direct contributions, to be replaced by the surplus of revenue over expenditure, which has accumulated to about £30,000, in view of the want of consideration shown in connection with the land grant made to the New Guinea Syndicate. Sir George Turner has placed only £1,000 on the estimates as Victoria's New Guinea contribution.
