Sales of Waihi shares took place to-day on the Exchange at £o. Alpha shares again advanced, buyers offering 2s 7tl, and Crowns had demand at His. The cheaper stocks mentioned yesterday still had inquiry, but no sales were reported at the prices offered.. Standard stocks had fair demand at late rates.

MONOWAI GOLD MINES.

; In the Gem mine stoping is proceeding from the No. 2 tunnel in the back of the North level, also above the intermediate! level below the North-east level. The reef from 18 inches to 4 feet in , thickness. The tram-line,f rom.the mine to the mill is working satisfactorily. In the Monowai Mine No. 3 B. tunnel is in 18S feet, and 157 feet in the reef, and lias holed through to the No. 3 A. tunnel, where it passed through the reef. The tram-line tunnel has been driven 49 feet, making it 119 ft," the ground being much softer than than formerly, About six chains of trestling work has been done on the tram line, which is nearly completed, and a portion of the rails"laid down. The floods are greatly retarding the work, in consequence of 4go many land slips, and also the waterrace carried away a large portion of the framing,,which will take some time to repair. . „ HAURAKI ASSOCIATED. The County Council has consented to at once repair and metal the impassable portion of the road ieading from this mine to the Battery so that the manager fully expects to be able to have his usual monthly clean up in time for the next outgoing 'Frisco ! mail, and from appearances the result "will be quite equal to previous returns. Mr Nicc.ol, the Chairman of Directors, states that the mine is looking very well, rich ore being obtained from several sections of the mine, namely, above the No. 1 level, in the stopea between levels No. 1 and 2 from the winze which is being sunk from the No. 2 to the No. 3 level. This winze is now down 15ft. The No. 3 level is in a distance of 240 ft. It is therefore expected that-within another two months the face of the latter will be under the former, when a rise will be commenced and. a connection made between the two levels as soon as possible. Samples of ore from the above places have been brought to town and may be seen at the office of the Company.
