WHAT GENERAL BOOTH SAYS.

General Booth, who has just returned from a visit to the United States, was welcomed by a g-athering of 20,----000 people at the Crystal Palace, London, on May 9th. In the course of his speech he said: —

'Tile majority of the people of that nation, especially the truest, most thoughtful and most Christian portion of.it, desire nothing- higher than an intelligent and an abiding alliance between this country and theirs. (Unbounded enthusiasm greeted this statement.) When I left New York the Stars and Stripes and the Union .JVc;k were being- crossed, amidst loudi® acclamations, in the concert halls, theatres and public gatherings, and the people were singing, with unspeakable enthusiasm, alternately the national anthem of America, "My country, 'tis of thee," and then, with almost greater gusto, they went in for "Gor Save the Queen." (Another out- , burst of overwhelming applause.) 'My comrades and friends, I am for an alliance of all nations, for the brotherhood of mankind and the parliament of men. 1 would like to see them all join hand-in-hand in an eft'Ort for the peace and righteousness andw ell-being of the* world, and my voicfe has been lifted up yonder, and is lifted np hefe, and I say, let Eng-

land and America lead the van, join arm-in-arm, and walk for God and truth around the world! (Enthusiastic approval was accorded The General's noble conception.)
