The Parnell v. City match was played on No. 3 ground under the unpleasant circumstances ol! (.-old, wintry .showers. City only placed twelve men in the field, and they had but threw backs — Corles, Reid, and Donovan. With this.severe handicap they wore beaten alter the first live minutes of play, and at the end of the first speil with the score standing Parnell H> points, City nil, the City players wisely decided to retire from play. Mr Beck had charge of the whistle, with .Messrs Iteid and S. Gooke a?; line umpires. PJirnell put a strong back team in the field in the persons of: Asiier, Laws, Lain"-, Phekin, Mitchell, and Hedges. Parnell won the toss, and they at once set out to make the play open, and so it continued right through the spell. Parnell kept City penned in their 25. With no defence, and a strong forward pack against them, City had a bad time indeed. AHer the first lew minutes' play Whit ley picked, up from some loose play and transferred to Laws, As he i* then getting the ball, but Donovan stopped a score til the corner flag. A few minutes later Laws picked up. and with a clear run had no cliiliculty in get tin.'.l; across the line. Murray with a line kick converted. Parnell, 5 points; City, nil. The next score was obtained by Asher who also got an easy try. Murray failed to increase, the score. Two minutes later Whitley by a tine dribble nearly scored, but was stopped by Eeid. From a knock-on Parnell was awarded a free kick. Hogan acquitted himself: by landing the ball between the posts. Parnell, 11 points; City, nil. From a passing run between Laws, Richards, and Phelan, the latter got over. Laws proved successful at goal. Parnell, 10 poinlts; City, nil. A few minutes before the first spell ended Hogan by a neat dribble got the ball over the line. Murray's attempt to add to the score did not prove a success, and thus the game ended. For City, Oliphant, Codes, and Donovan played splendidly, and worked like Trojans despite the great odds against them.
