The American amateur record for pole-vaulting stands at lift 6in, put. up on May 7th, by R. G. Clapp, at the Yale University Sports.

With a view to the proper representation of Australia- in the 'Marathon' Pace in the Olympian games' at Paris in 1900, I think that during this and next winter similar races should be conducted in Melbourne. Sydney, Brisbane, and Christchurch or Auckland. A 'Marathon' Race, held under the auspices of the Boston A.A.A. in '07, proved a decided success, the course (along a dusty road, up hill and down dale, by the Avay) being covered in 2hrs. 55min. lOsec. This year 24 ran for the prize, and the winner covered the distance in 2hrs. 42min. Athletes here should remember that the principal event in the Olympian Games Avill be the 'Marathon' Race. —'Prodigal" in the 'Sydney Referee.' The London A.C. held their second Spring Meeting at Stamford Bridge on April 22, Avhen a fine afternoon's sport Avas Avitnessed. The event of the day, hoAvever, Avas One Mile Handicap, in Avhich W. E. Lutyens and H. A. Munro started from scratch, and there Avere tAventy-two other Entering the straight for home, CroAvther (150 yds.) had a lead of 30yds., but Lutyens came on full of running and won by a, dozen yards from Mun.ro, Avho beat M. F. S. Dixon (140 yds.) on the post. Time, 4min. 25 4-sth sec. The 220 yds. Challenge Cup race Avas won by F. R. D. Munro, Avith C. G. Davison second, and W. Fitzherbert third. Time, 23 2-sth sec. The Ta\-o Miles Steeplechase Challenge Cup Avas annexed by E. J. Wilkin1., H. A. Munro. the other competitor, being beaten by 4yds.—l2min. 9 2-sth sec. Several of the events Avere conlined to public school boys, Avho put up some very good times.
