SMUGGLING SULPHUR.

NEW YORK, May 9

A despatch from Montreal says: — The wholesale drug houses here have run out of sulphur. Bell, House, Dillon and Co. have purchased what there was to be had —five or six torus —and shipped it to the United States, ostensibly for use in the manufacture of pulp, but, it is presumed, for rise in a powder factory. There are now en route in British bottoms from Europe 10.000 tons of sulphur. These cargoes will be landed in Canada and reshipped to consignees across the border. Customs duties Avill.be collected by the States. If it is entered for use hi making pulp it cannot be regarded as eontrabrand of war.
