PROPOSED FARMERS' COOPERATIVE SOCIETY.
An adjourned meeting1 of delegates to consider I he formation of the. proposed Auckland Farmers" Co-opera-tive Society wa.s held i|,j s morning in the club room at the Metropolitan Hotel. Mr A. Morrison (of Awlutu) presided, there being also present. Madg.-iiy (Ilobsonvjlfc), Arkle (WJbangaparoa), Howe (Hobsonville), F. Vl- _ .foncs (U'arkworih), Turner (lluin), S. A. llmuno (Wairoa), and J. 11. Maekie (Auckland Fruitgrowers' Association). Mr Browne acted as secretary.
Tim secretary reported what ho had (lone since lust meeting1 in regard to printing- and distribution of a pamphlet on the subject oli co-opera-tion. This pamphlet dealt with the history of co-operation, the moral aspci'i and the business principles. Tlu' Chairman apologised for the absence of Mr Rhodes and said that 278 shares had been applied for. Correspondence was road from differp.nl dist ricis expressing' sympathy with (he movement generally. With regard to the number of shares propo.sed to bo allotted to uaeh shareholder various opinions wore, expressed, two correspondents urging that more tlnin five should be allotted to one member. The delegates handed in (heir reports from various districts. Mr I). Davidson, secretary of the Parua Settlers' Club, wrote that some members of the Club had a desire to become members of the. proposed society. Mr Clias. A. Pratt (of Tauranga) wrote lhat the farmers in Hint, district were inclined to look coldly on the scheme, mostly in consequence of t lit* failure, of t he' former society. Letters were also read from J'ulcckohe, Te. Puke, Te. Awamufu, KeriIteri and llokianga. Mr Mac.kie said the question of the formation of the Society bad nor, been definitely discussed by the Fruitgrowers' Association. It ' had been talked about. The Chairman said if they got the co-operation of the country districts there was no fear about the town. He. felt sure they would get plenty of support in town. A general discussion ensued as to the best means to rouse country settlers up to lake an interest in forming the Society. Mr Jones moved, 'That, n meet-in" be held on Friday 27th August next to arrange definitely for the. establishment of the Society, the basis of. which to be that there shall be definite applications to the value of .-1i250; on that proof steps be taken at the meeting to establish the Society.' Mr Browne seconded. The question of raising funds for purposes of registration of the Society by 1/ subscriptions was suggested and discussed. Delegates present promised they would do all they could in their respective districts in the direction named. The, motion of Mr .Tones was put and agreed to, and the meeting dispersed.
