The Waihi Mine.
£15,708 FOR THE MONTH.
GRAND OUTPUT £722,293.
I lie return for tho past four weeks operations at the Waihi Company's two crushing mills totalled £18,708, the amount of ore treated being 0,150 tons. Una return is not as largo as the one for the previous month, but this is due to the fact that there were over 500 tons less of ore treated during the past four weeks. The total output of bullion from this mine has now reached tho value of £722,293 2s 10d. The following table shows the return per year from this mine since 189U :— Bullion won _ fi (j In 18!K) 21,112 13 6 J 891 23.933 6 11 1802 4-I.SKB 2 I 1893 fII.OOO 10 it 1891 82,827 2 2 1895 „ .. „ 120,331 2 2 1896 137,321 8 2 1*97 • .. .. _ 111,1110 0 0 1893 to Juno __, 83,931 0 0 Total .. .. £722,293 2 10
It is vory gratifying to be able to report tho Welcome lode in lowest depth worked in the Waihi mine is shaping very well. So far the lode has been cut into 19 feet without the opposite wall having been met with. A careful assay gives tho averago value per ton of ore at over an ounce of pure gold, as well as several ounces of silver per ton. The Martha hide should he still further ahead, arid if it shows similar improvement at a depth to what the Welcome reef has done it will mean a big thing for tho lucky shareholders in this Company, as thero will be ample ore to keep the two mills running from this part alone for the next four or live years, and the possibilities downwards can scarcely be estimated. There is also the question that if these lodes increase in value when worked at a greater depth, whether the present large bodies of very low grade ore existing in other mines adjacent might not do .likewise.
