DEATH OF MRS MATSON.

We regret to announce the death of Mrs Mat-on, who passed away at her residence, "Brook_.de," Manukau'Road, Parnell, at an early hour this morning, after a severe illness, extending froth the month of August last. The* deceased lady took a great! interest in all local affairs at Parnell,' and ! twice she was elected aComicillorattheliead of the poll. The last occasion was in August | last, hut she was compelled to send in her) resignation a fortnight later. Deceased] also took an interest in church affairs, and ! her face was a fain .Jar one at meetings of! the Diocesan Synod. She was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral.. Deceased suffered from a complication of diseases, and was attended'by Dr. McDowell. ' She leaves behind her an only daughter, Amy, unmarried. Mr A. _3ucklaud, the well-known auctioneer, is a brother of deceased. Mrs Matson was wife of tiie late Colonel H. Matson, of the oSth Regiment, and he was one who took bait in the storming of Rnapekapeka on the 11th January, 1846. He retired between-the years IS£7 and IS4B and settled in Parnell. At that time he owned most of the property on the south side of Manukau Road. Colonel Matson's first wife was Miss de Thierry, a daughter of the late Baron de Thierrv.
