WASHINGTON, April 29.
.;' Tiie lute-class American battleship Terror sighted; the Spanish, steamer Guido, which had banked her fires, •waiting for an. opportunity to run into one of the Cuban.ports with coin, food, etc. for the Spanish troops;
■ On the Terror coming, in view the Guido was steered away-irom the land iat her utmost speed. ,
The battleship 'Terror gave chase, but the speed exhibited by, the Guido gaveier a good chance of escaping.
■ Z At-'this exciting moment*an American gunboat came upon the scene and joined in the ■ chase, with the result .that the Guido was intercepted: and !'iT?as forced to.surrender. Reports of the occurrence do riot state that any .' damage was done to the Guido by I fire from the American warships, arid the presumption is that the Spanish . commander, on seeing the; superior force of the enemy, surrendered at an early stage to save his vessel and her crew from destruction. .'■ , :.
The ■ Americans having taken possession of the Guido, the latter -was ■~,'promptly "Overhauled and' proved to be 8 most valuable prize. It was found \ that in addition to ordinary cargo--the Spanish vessel had onjboard four hun- ' dred thousand dollars, or over £100,000 in English money, intended for payment of vthe Spanish- troops operating 'in Cuba. . ; \ • .
