A MOROCCO EXPEDITION.
SENSATIONAL EXPERIENCES,
The members of an expedition promoted by the Globe Venture Syndicate have been attacked on the Sus coast of Morocco by the Sultan's troops. Brisk fightings took place, and, according to telegrams received through Tangier;- four Englishmen were captured. A Keuter message states that the British vessel Tourmaline was intercepted on the coast when attempting to land arms. She opened fhe on the Shereefian steamer Hassani, which returned the fire. A boat containing three Englishmen was captured by the Shereefian troops, who demolished all 'the villages favourable to foreigners, killing and wounding large numbers of the inhabitants. The Globe Venture Syndicate was formed just a year ago. Its objects are (says the "Daily Mail") to engage "in first-class trading and financial operations." An expedition was fitted out by'the syndicate "with the object of thoroughly exploring the Sus district of Morocco, and for the purpose of ascertaining its mining capabilities." The expedi tion went under the auspices of a treaty which is now deposited at the Bank of England, granted by the Jemmah, or Council of the Chiefs of all the independent tribes of Sus, conceding the direct trading monopoly over an area of 150,000 square miles and a population of about 5,000,000 people. This treaty was entered into with the: Sus chiefs at the special recommendation, according to the syndicate, of the Shereef of Wazan, the recognised head of the entire Occidental Mohammedan world.
