BOARD OF EDUCATION.

The ordinary meeting of the Board of Education was held to-day, there being in .attendance Messrs S. Luke (Chairman), Theo. Cooper, Ba^nall, Wright, Muir, Udy, Harris, Hobbs.
" Graphic Object Readers."—An application from Collins Bros., asking the Board to postpone adoption of any series of school readers until the Inspector had an opportunity of examining the "NNc r Graphic Reader" was deterred until after consideration of Mr Reed's motion. The firm offered to place special New Zealand matter in the Reader. Mr Bagnall said he thought this was a step in the right direction.
Karangahake School Contract.—Mr C. W. Coltlham asked that his forfeited timber deposit he returned to him. The request was refused. Golden Cross.—Ke request for a school at Golden Cross (Waitekauri), the Inspector reported there are 21 children of school age actually living at Golden Cross and St. Hippo. A school was needed as lie believed there would be an average attendance of about 20 to 25 pupils. He thought it would be advisable in tlie first instance to erect a temporary building. The report ot the inspector was adopted. Kati Kati North and Bowentown.—Mr G. V. Steward was present and spoke in favour of No. 1 school being re-opened and being worked half time with the new school at Bowentown.—Matter deferred.
Whakaliara.— It was resolved that an aided school under the BSth section of the Act. be established.
Birkdale. —A request for a teacher's house was referred to the architect.
Gordon.—-It was agreed to apply to ;hc Crown Lands Board for a site for a teacher's house at Gordon.
Mount Albert. — Re enlargement of school, it was agreed to inform the architect that space would be wanted for SO addit:onal children.
Onehunga.—The Committee appointed to report upon Mr Brad ley's offer of land adjoining school site at Onehunga recommend the Board to acquire the land at a cost of £500.—The Board deferred considertion of the Committee's report.
Paeroa. —Re overcrowding of Paeroa school, the Inspector reported business at Paeroa was depressed. The population had reached what would prove high water mark for some time to come. He thought the question of enlarging the school might be deferred. —The report of the Inspector was adopted. Owharoa.—lt was decided to add to the school building at Owharoa to accommodate 100 children.
Hautapu School. — The Inspector reported on the Committee's request for removal of the school building to a more central position. He advised the request of the Committee be not granted.— The Inspector's report was adopted. Damage to School Buildings.—The portion of the architect's report with reference to damage to Richmond Road School was referred to the Ponsonby Committee. It was also agreed that a circular on the subject be drawn up and a request forwarded for the contents to be read at the annual meeting of householders.
Devonport.—The Devonport Committee asked that a number of small miscellaneous repairs be clone. —The architects pointed out that some of the repairs _ would be fit subjects of instruction to some of the pupils attending the Devonport technical schools and serve as an object lesson.—lt was resolved to do the work requested and draw the Committee's attention to the architect's memo.
Mount Albert. — The sum of £5 for school drainage was granted,
Lake. —The Committee wrote that the school roof leaked, and complained of a draught in the school.—^Referred to the architect to report. Richmond Road. —It was resolved to effect certain improvements to the Richmond Road school ground.
