TRAMWAY TRACTION
(By Telegraph —Press Association.)
DUNEDIN, this day.
At the annual meeting of the City and Suburban Tramway Company, Mr George Fenvvick, chairman of directors, stated that during the course of his visit to the United States ami Great Britain, last year, he made special inquiries into the various traction systems in vogue. Except in the very largest of American cities, such as New York and Chicago, the overhead trolly system Avas almost invariably in use, and was everywhere spoken of most favourably. He made free use of cars, and found the system free from objectionable features. He made a special trip to Blackpool in the i gas motors employed on the line there, and ! lie considered the success of the motor from a purely working point of view amply demonstrated. In Glasgow he made inquiries about the new motor, and was advised to counsel the Dunedin Tramway Company not hastily to make any change, as there were possibilities of early improvement in electrical tramway traction of a most important character, which would send the new system at once to the front.
