BAND CONTEST.

NAPIER, Wednesday.

The result of the marching competition in connection with the band contest was a surprise, Wanganui heading the list in points for both drill and music, getting 81 for the former and 67 for the latter. The points gained by the other bands were: Fielding 137, Woodville 136, Napier Garrison 135, Wellington Garrison 128, Canterbury Engineers 114. The following results were declared: — Euphonium solo: A. Donaldson, Wellington Garrison, 1; McCarthy, Waihi, 2. B flat cornet: F. McConneU, Napier Garrison, 1; P. Denton, Wellington Garrison, 2. Trombone : H. Cummings, Wellington Garrison, 1; A. Scorgie, Napier City, 2. Baritone: S. Greening, Napier Garrison, 1; C. Forrest, Wellington Garrison, 2. E flafc sopranos: G, Buckley, Wellington Garrison, 1; E. Chegwiclden, Napier City, 2.
